News from Cork Scout Fellowship, Ireland

In Ireland, Cork Scout Fellowship is a particularly active group, with about 20 members. They have a regular programme of activities, meeting weekly.

They have their own minibus and each month have an outing to a place of interest. They support Scouting by monthly work parties, helping to maintain a Scout campsite on the outskirts of Cork city. Some of the more agile members have been taking part in a fitness programme for the past while.
They have an annual “camp” (not in tents, they stay in a hotel) every May. Last year it was in Westport, Co Mayo (North west Ireland) and this year they plan to go to Connemara in Co Galway. Recent day outings included a boat trip in West Cork, having lunch on Cape Clear island then on to the Fastnet rock and lighthouse. Another visit was to Irish Distillers in Midleton, where Irish whiskey is made, with a coopering (traditional barrel making) demonstration.
Cork Scout Fellowship commissioned a plate by a well known Irish designer, to be given as a thank you gift to those who help them in any way.
