New Year’s message 2024

Dear members,

Yet another year now 2023 is coming to an end.
We are told this has been the hottest year ever on earth and certainly there have been natural challenges in every corner of our planet. Heavy storms, fires, floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, dryness and the human population has not yet learned to live in peace.

This was also the 70th anniversary of ISGF and a year when all our regions managed to have their conferences.

We have learned that many of our NSGF’s are doing a marvelous work making the outmost effort to have influence on Mother Nature and their surroundings. Still we know that many are struggling to survive. We are all bound by the promise we have made towards the scout spirit and we want to leave this world a little better than it was when we entered. Have we succeeded?

In one corner of the world there has been war going on for quite a while. That is Ukraine. Many countries in Europe with Italy and Austria in the front line have been working to make the life for the Ukraine’s young scouts a little easier by inviting them to camps away from the situation in their country. The main problem is to raise enough money for the travel cost. If any guild members could contribute to that task it would be highly appreciated.

The peace light is brought from Bethlehem which could be considered as a paradox due to the situation in that area right now. The light is brought through most of Europe every year in November and December and given to anyone willing to accept it and the message included for peace on earth.

Next year we have the opportunity to meet again at the World Conference in Granada. That will make the end of my term (6 years) and a bonus year because of COVID as member of World Committee and your Chairman the last two years. I am not going to overwhelm you with everything that has happened during this time but I would like to use this opportunity to thank you for trusting me and my fellow members of World Committee. This has been quite a journey. I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to meet many of you and that my circle of friends has been enlarged.
