Report 10th ISGF European Region Conference
The 10th Europe Region conference was held in Bremen, Germany from 21 – 25 August 2019. One hundred and eighty (180) members from the European member organisations were present with nearly every NSGF / CB in the Region taking part in the conference.
The venue was very good and the participants could choose between two types of accommodation. The theme of the conference was "Diversity" and the conference had both speakers on the theme and an interesting workshop during which the participants were able to discuss the different aspects of the theme. The participants were welcomed to Bremen by the Mayor during a reception in the historic Town Hall.
On one day there was an excursion, to Bremerhaven where there were several options to visit different museums and exhibitions. This was an interesting feature of the conference as we had a unique possibility to learn something about the area and to gain new experiences.
The business part of the conference told us that the European region is a region with a good systematic approach to work. The committee have both goals and structure in their work. The working plan and budget for the next triennium was decided. The focus will be on an increase in membership.
The European region has a constitution which states that each subregion nominates one member to the European committee. After the conference in Bremen the European committee has the following members;
• Chair and treasurer Pierre Decoene, Belgium, Western Europe subregion
• Vice chair Hans Slaneck, Austria, Central Europe subregion
• Secretary Lena Claesson, Sweden, Nordic Baltic subregion
• Public Relations Ana Rodrigues, Portugal, Southern Europe subregion
A group of local scouts and guides were active in the conference from the opening till the closing ceremony. They had also raised a tent outside the conference venue open for the participants to visit. In the evenings they had song nights. This part of a conference is always nice. The German organizers did a good job and the participants had a really good time in Bremen. Some of them continued on a post tour to the Lüneburger Heide.
