2020 founders day uk 01On 22nd February the Leigh Explorer Scout Unit with the help of Guild member Stuart Diplock are seen here planting new hedging around the perimeter of a coppice.

Coppicing is a traditional method of woodland management which exploits the capacity of many species of trees to put out new shoots from their stump or roots if cut down.
2020 founders day uk 02The project will clear the overgrown coppice and has been undertaken by these Explorers with support from the Guild members, who also contributed to the cost of the hedging. Once the coppice is cleared, the site will be used for Wild Camping and Campcraft training. The project is expected to take 18 months to complete.
