These last weeks horrible murders were perpetrated by a man: first soldiers from Muslim or Caribbean origin, then on Monday 19 March, a teacher and three children in a Jewish school in Toulouse. These murders raised a very high emotion within the whole French population. The five associations of Scoutisme Français did take part, with their unity and solidarity, remembering their values of fraternity, to the silent demonstrations in Toulouse and in Paris on Sunday 25 March.
“The Federation of Scoutisme Français, which groups Eclaireuses Eclaireurs de France (open association), Eclaireuses Eclaireurs Israélites de France (Jewish), Eclaireuses Eclaireurs Unionistes de France (Protestants), Scouts et Guides de France (Catholics) and Scouts Musulmans de France, shares the deep sorrow of the Jewish and Muslim communities deeply affected by these murderous shooting in Montauban and Toulouse on 11, 15 and 19 March.
The Federation of Scoutisme Français expresses its brotherly compassion to the families of the victims.
This terrible drama has been a great shock for our whole country. Confronted with this unleashing of violence, hatred and murdering madness, our Federation is gathered around its brothers and sisters Scouts Musulmans de France and Éclaireuses Éclaireurs Israélites de France as to offer them its support and consolation.
Scouting, through its practice of “living together” educates children for them to become peace builders and citizens committed to a society which is righteous, equitable and benevolent towards all women and all men.
The values of solidarity and brotherhood are our only defence in front of hatred and blindness. The unity shared within Scoutisme Français between Protestants, “laics”, Catholics, Jews and Muslims testifies that “leaving together” is possible.
Our conviction is that fraternity and sharing are tokens of peace for the future of all our children”
