tornado uruguay 2016On April 15, 2016 there was a violent storm with winds that swept across the so-called South America Tornado Corridor in Uruguay. Fierce storms packing 250 km/h hit the city of Dolores in West Uruguay. The powerful storm killed five people and 250 were wounded. At the same time a low pressure front went into the country causing heavy rain in just a few hours. Many regions like Colonia, San José, Durazno, Treinta y Tres and Rocha were flooded and more than ten thousand people had to evacuate.

Helping hands came quickly to help on the spot and among those volunteers were Scouts of Uruguay, Red Cross and members of the Central Branch group Fraternidad Adultos Scouts y Guias del Uruguay (FASGU). They collected and donated clothing, mattresses, blankets, food, medicines, building material etc. Cooperative actions are still going on in order to help those who became homeless.
