On this day scouts and guides all over the world come together to celebrate the worldwide Fellowship in scouting and to focus on the basic values in Guiding and Scouting as laid down by the founder Baden-Powell.
When I was a young guide we used St George's Day to present ourselves and our activities in the neighborhood. We were active, visible and had a lot of fun.
We were proud of our troop and when we renewed our scout promise we thought of scouts and guides worldwide doing the same. It gave us a strong feeling of friendship.
What about us, the ”old scouts”, how do they celebrate the Day? I think many of us meet with our friends in a local Fellowship. Are we visible? Do we still enjoy the fun and Fellowship?
More than ever I think we feel thankfulness for what we have gained through our scout and guide life. I am sure we all want the coming generation to experience the same values and friendship.
Members of the International Scout and Guide Fellowship and the International Ambassadors Guild can all play an active part in promoting and supporting guiding and scouting in our local community. The challenge is yours.
Best wishes for a happy and prosperous St George’s Day celebration.
Yours in Fellowship,
Chairman International Ambassadors Guild
